Travel Pass in South Yorkshire - Mobilty
Pass / English National Concession Pass
Registered Deaf people can travel around
South Yorkshire (Sheffield, Barnsley, Doncaster and
Rotherham) for FREE OF CHARGE
on buses, trains and trams ALL
DAY.
Train Travel to West Yorkshire is FREE
only on Northern Trains (slow trains).
Bus Travel around England is FREE only on local Buses
NOT National Express Buses.
If you already got a Mobility pass you
should have had an application form posted to you,
for the English National Concession Pass, the Mobility
Pass will not work from 1st October 2008. It is important
that you try and fill in an application form from
the SYPTE or travel centres.
You can get a English National Concession
Pass application form if you go to Howden House reception
(where Social services are based) to collect and fill
in a Mobility Pass application form. Sheffield City
Council will check if you are registered deaf before
posting you the Approval Letter.
You will have to wait for the approval
letter to be posted to your home address. You will
need the Approval Letter from Sheffield City Council,
One Passport photo and proof that you are living in
South Yorkshire (E.g. Electricity Bill, water bill,
any offical document with your address).

SMS to South Yorkshire Police
If
you need to contact the South Yorkshire Police in
emergency - send an SMS to 07786 220022
from your mobile. Please save this number on your
mobile.
(Please note that
this number is not reliable. If you NEED to text the
police, send a message and if you get a reply within
2 minutes - then the system is working. If you do
not get a reply within 2 minutes, the system is broken
- get someone to call 999 or call typetalk on 18000
immediately. The Police are planning to replace this
old SMS system later this year)
Or REGISTER with Typetalk / TextRelay
999 Service on your mobile. You will need to send
a SMS "REGISTER" to 999 on your mobile then
reply with "ACCEPT" to 999.

Video recorders are no longer sold on
the market because of the Digital Tv switch over happening
in 2011.
You have two options:
Expensive option: SKY+ pay monthly (minimum
£20 per month - you must pay for a minimum of
12 months)
Cheaper option: Freeview and buy a Humax
Personal Video Recorder (PVR9200TBX) for about £200.
It is also a digital set-top box, you might have to
install a freeview satellite dish outside your home
to receive the digital tv signals. You can buy PVR
9200TBX from John Lewis, Currys and amazon.co.uk.
Hearing Aid Batteries / Audiology
Battery collection: 9am - 4pm.
If you are unable to collect batteries
from Hallamshire Hospital personally, you can post
your hearing aid brown book to audiology department,
they will post you 6 batteries to your address.
Audiology Opening hours:
Monday morning: 9-12pm
Monday evening: 4-7pm
Tuesday afternoon: 12pm-4pm
Wednesday afternoon: 12pm-4pm
Thursday morning: 9-12pm
Friday afternoon: 12-4pm

You can collect Hearing Aid Batteries
at Central Deaf Club, you need to bring your brown hearing
aid record booklet with you.

Ever
wanted to book a taxi but could not telephone a taxi
and had to rely on hearing people to book it for you.
Not any more - now you can send a SMS
/ Mobile message to Mercury taxis. Send the following
information to 83399:
- MERCURY(SPACE)
- House Number(SPACE)Postcode OR
Pub Name + Road
- Name of person who needs the taxi
- Time you need the taxi
Make sure you start the SMS with the
word MERCURY and keep the message simple otherwise
you will get an error message. Mercury Taxi will send
you a message to let you know when the taxi has arrived.

are deaf, your name and what you think is wrong with
the car. RAC will locate your mobile signal and a
RAC Breakdown Van should be with
you within 40 minutes.

your name and what you think is wrong with the car.
